Helping hand for river health and soil conservation in Dorrigo and Upper Nymboida

Projects may include those that will help prevent soil erosion and agricultural runoff entering waterways.
North Coast Local Land Services is encouraging landholders in the Dorrigo and Upper Nymboida River catchment area to apply for funding grants that contribute to water quality improvements and minimise soil erosion, sedimentation and nutrient runoff into waterways. The Dorrigo and Upper Nymboida River catchment area supports a number of highly productive agricultural systems including vegetable, dairying and beef production and is the catchment for Clarence Valley Council and Coffs Harbour City Regional Water Supply. Healthy sustainable soils and good water quality underpin these industries and in turn these industries contribute to our local community through food production. A maximum of $10,000 is available on a 1:1 cash or in-kind contribution to the project from participating landholders. Activities that will be funded include but are not limited by:
  • Riparian restoration including fencing off stock from waterway, installation of troughs, weed control and native species revegetation.
  • Soil conservation earth works to prevent soil erosion, sedimentation and agricultural runoff entering waterways. This may include stock crossings, dairy laneways located near a natural waterway and sediment and drainage control techniques on cultivated land.
This project is supported by North Coast Local Land Services, through funding from the National Landcare Program and Catchment Action New South Wales. Applications close 5pm on 31 August 2017.
