The Yamba Chamber of Commerce is calling for help from the business community and locals who can help erect and decorate the Yamba Community Christmas Tree in the town’s CBD.

The Chamber’s long-held desire to “erect a Gigantic Christmas tree” in the CBD was fulfilled in 2016 during the time when Rohrig Constructions were completing Yamba Bowling Club’s $3 million family leisure centre and contract manager, John Demnar said the company wanted to show its appreciation of the Yamba community’s welcoming nature “by donating to a project that the community could be proud of for years to come.”

Prior to purchasing the Christmas Tree, the Chamber resorted to erecting a “carpet” Christmas Tree, courtesy of Yamba Rotary, in ‘Chamber Park’ at the intersection of Yamba and Wooli Streets.

So Rohrig Constructions donated $4000, and the Yamba Chamber of Commerce donated another $4000 to purchase the $8000 Christmas Tree.

Every year since 2016 the Christmas Tree has been erected in ‘Chamber Park’.

For 2023 the Yamba Chamber of Commerce have decided to make the tree a Community Christmas Tree and they are encouraging locals to get involved, both in erecting and decorating the tree on Sunday, December 3, from 4pm.

“This year the Chamber have decided to make it a Community Christmas Tree and we will try to get people from the community to come and help,” committee member Bev Mansfield said.

“Who wants to come and help put up the tree?

“People can bring items, whether it be a picture of their business or their logo and hang it from the tree.

“If people want to bring things down to decorate the tree that would be wonderful.”

For the last few years, Yamba Ready Hire have kindly stored the Christmas Tree at their business, but now the Chamber is looking for alternative storage options and encouraging any locals who may have the room to store the tree in a shed to get in contact.

If you can help erect and/or decorate the Christmas Tree, or you have a place to store the tree once it’s pulled down, contact Bev on 0499 588 137 or email bevmans67@gmail.com
