Last Sunday morning saw the Women Veteran’s Top Gun Shootout sponsored by Coopers Brewery was contested, with the top 10 qualifiers from all rounds since March. Janette Blair celebrated her birthday in fine style and played her usual beautiful golf holding off all the challengers and was able to defeat Heather Robinson on the 9th hole with a lovely par. Heather was unlucky to have played her worst hole during the shootout on the last. Janette was a very happy winner following on from her elimination in this event last year on the 1st hole. For the 2nd year in a row, Millie Harris was eliminated on the 8th hole. Chrissy Danvers was given a reprieve on the 2nd hole following a chip off with Dot Newton and was able to hang on until the 7th. Janeen Roberts put her tee shot in the bushes off the 6th and was unable to recover to be eliminated on that hole. Julie White had sand trouble on the 5th and was subsequently eliminated. Cathy McMullan was out on the 4th, Bev Snowdon on the 3rd following a penalty in the water off the tee. Dot Newton had some bad luck to be eliminated on the 2nd and Soo McPherson visited all the beaches on the 1st hole to be the first player eliminated. The 10 ladies on Saturday morning certainly enjoyed their golf with plenty of exciting and not so exciting happenings taking place in the 18-hole Stableford competition. Our two “senior queens”, Bo and Bessie certainly proved that their golfing skills are up there with the best of Grafton Lady Golfers. With the day’s Stableford competition commencing on the 10th hole, both “queens “performed chip-ins for a birdie each. Not content with the one birdie each, the “two queens” again perfected the result on the 6th hole with Bo chipping in and Bessie placing her tee shot on to the green and putting it in the hole for her birdie also. Carol Toms had a great round to record 36 Stableford pts. However, she once again had to be content with the runner up prize as Marianne Mannell took the win with her fantastic 40pts. Bo and Bessie both received the NTP on the 10th. The 2nd Round of the Ken Casson Mazda Aggregate was held in conjunction on Saturday and Marianne was the winner on 71pts with Carol next best on 69. Our Saturday lady golfers sincerely thank Steve Casson for his generous sponsorship of our Ken Casson Mazda Aggregate competitions this year. Friday ladies had a good number of 25 starters for their Stableford competition with some great scores being posted. Anna Bidstrup was very happy with her return to form to come in as the winner of Div 1 on 37pts from Jan Hamilton on 33 c/b from Marie Hayes. Mary Katte was the Div 2 winner on 39pts from Sandra Gleeson (35) and Val Franey (31). With the Maclean course in fantastic condition on Friday our six representatives at the 2015 Golf NSW 4BBB v Par Classic District Playoff, had a challenging day. However, team Elaine Shand and Julie White despite their many rued putts were very happy to learn that they had won a ball for their score. Congratulations to the Maclean pairing of Chris Forrester and Shirley Passlow who showed that local knowledge and a dash of talent, earned them first place when they stormed in with a great score of +5, which was three ahead of the next best score. Well done girls and good luck in the State event at Bonville in November. Our 27-hole 2015 Foursomes Championships were held last Wednesday on a very cool spring day. Sharyn O’Grady partnered with junior player, Courtney Fuller, to claim the Honour Board title and Champions prize for this year with a score of 128 from 2013 champions Heather Robinson and Elaine Shand on 137 on a 3 way c/b. Div 2 Champions were Cathy Jones and Margaret Hall on 158 from Jan Hamilton and Helen Hopwood on 159. The overall nett prize on Wednesday went to Janette Blair and Shirley Goodger on 110 to receive the Jan Hamilton and Mary Katte sponsored prize. Preparations are underway for our upcoming Westlawn Finance sponsored annual Jacaranda Open Day which is to be held on Friday 30 October and entries are now being accepted for this event. Julie White
