Grafton Vets Neil Farrington Shield to be retired

One of the feature events of the Grafton Golf Club fraternity has been the Neil Farrington Shield, which was first introduced to their program of events in 2007.

This was in recognition of Neil’s achievements and contribution to the history of the Club. Those achievements include nine Club Championships and as a Club Director where he served for 17 years in various administration capacities.

Since the introduction of the Farrington Shield, Pam Farrington has been the principal sponsor and supporter of the event, which has been more than appreciated by all Veteran golfers during that time.

However, Pam has decided now would be an appropriate time to retire the Neil Farrington Shield day with the final competition scheduled for Tuesday March 19.

The competition that day will be expanded to not only honour Neil, but also two of his golfing mates. The overall winner on the day will obviously be awarded with the shield. In addition, the front 9 will be dedicated to Merv Sharman with the back 9 dedicated to Neil Martin with prizes awarded to the winners of each nine. It should be pointed out that only Grafton Veterans will be eligible for these trophies.

A portion of the available prize money for the day has been reserved for runner-up players, nearest the pins and golf balls, with the appropriate allocation of all prize money at the discretion of the Veteran’s Committee.

All good and great things must conclude at some time and the competition planned for March 19 is a more than suitable way to honour Neil, which will compliment his life membership, which he was awarded with in 1999.

For those interested in the complete history of Neil’s golfing achievements, they can be found in the foyer of the golf club. You cannot help but be amazed with Neil’s contribution to all levels of Grafton and District Golf and his dedication to Grafton Golf Club members.
