On a day when the conditions were near perfect, Monica Darke has once again asserted her dominance in the Northern Rivers District Association Champion of Champions match at the Grafton Rifle Range on Saturday. It is some four years since Monica from the Dorrigo Rifle Club last headed the field in this match and went on to perform well in the NSWRA Champion of Champions match against the other NSW District Associations in Sydney at the Anzac Range, Malabar. She found her stride right from the start and went on to finish the match having dropped only two points over the four ranges from 300 to 900 yards, with a very impressive central bull [V] count of twenty two. Other shooters to represent the Northern Rivers Association in Sydney are Luke Bloomer from Grafton in the U25’s Target Rifle division, and Anthony Gallagher from the Coffs Harbour Club in the F-Class match. We wish them all well in their endeavours in the coming weeks. The afternoon club shoot from the 300 yard mound for the third stage of the Secretary’s Trophy, which was fired in the same very benign conditions also produced some outstanding results. Eight possibles were produced with four coming from the T/R division, and four from the F-Class division. In Target Rifle, Dennis Hilton and Peter Nielsen produced one each while Nick Abrahall produced the double to give himself the full 100/100 for the day and the Grafton ShoppingWorld Butchery’s Off-Rifle Trophy from Dennis Hilton and Peter Nielsen both on 99/100. In the F-Class, possibles [60/60] went to John Black and Anthony Gallagher in their second stages, while Sue Bloomer fired in the double possible [120/120] to take the Grafton ShoppingWorld Butchery’s Off-Rifle Trophy in this division, with John Black, David Grundy and Anthony Gallagher battling it out for the minor places. The Daily Aggregate Trophies went to Rob Durrington in T/R, with Nick Abrahall and Dennis Hilton close behind, while in F-Class it was a much rejuvenated David Grundy who prevailed with Allan Johnson, Nick DeBellis and Sue Bloomer in hot pursuit. Next week the shoot will be from the 400 yard mound for the fourth and final stage of the Secretary’s Trophy, commencing at 1pm. The sausage sizzle fund raiser will be on offer during the mid-day session, so it would be a good idea to come hungry and enjoy the top fare on offer. The range is located at 434 Trenayr Road, opposite the Koppers log mill and adjacent to the Experiment Farm. Visitors and new members are always welcome. Anthony O’Keeffe
