On an otherwise hot day, the brisk quartering breeze kept conditions bearable as contestants took to the 300 yard mound for the third round of the Handicapper’s Trophy, monthly competition. The conditions were not easy, with the T/R shooters suffering somewhat from wind buffet, so that the only “possibles” [60/60], came from the F-Class division where David Grundy broke through for his first with 60-5 in the first stage, and fell just one short in his second, to take out both the Off-Rifle Honours and the Daily Aggregate with 119-10 and 127.5. Dennis Hilton was giving his F-Open 6mm/Dasher a trial run and compiled a double to finish with 120/120 for the day, and both were extremely pleased with their efforts. In the Target Rifle division, Ian Griffiths took both the Off-Rifle Honours and the Daily Aggregate, when he came home with a very strong 49/50 in his second stage, closely followed by Wayne Pearson and Andrew Geary in the Daily Aggregate. T/R Scores : Ian Griffiths 48-3 49-4 97-7 1.5 98.5; Wayne Pearson [Opt.] 45-1 43-0 88-1 9.5 97.5; Andrew Geary 47-1 48-4 95-5 1.5 96.5; Tony O’Keeffe 46-3 45-1 91-4 3.0 94.0; Nick Abrahall 48-4 42-0 90-4 1.0 91.0. F-Class Scores: David Grundy 60-5 59-5 119-10 8.5 127.5; Dennis Hilton [F-Open] 60-3 60-2 120-5 3.0 123.0; John Robertson 54-2 55-1 109-3 10.0 119.0; Allan Johnson 52-0 56-3 108-3 10.5 118.5; Nick DeBellis 58-3 58-1 116-4 2.5 118.5; Ian Nelson 46-0 50-1 96-1 20.0 116.0; Mark Millard 53-2 57-1 110-3 5.5 115.5; John Black 54-3 57-4 111-7 3.0 114.0; Scott Murdoch 47-0 44-1 91-1 16.0 107.0. The field on Saturday was somewhat depleted, as quite a few gave up their afternoon shoot to continue on with the refurbishment of the clubhouse and surrounding amenities. This government assisted project is proceeding well on time and on budget, thanks to the efforts of the “willing and able”. Next week the competition will be from the 400 yard mound for the fourth and final stage of the Handicapper’s Trophy. It will also be the second last shoot of the year for the 2015 Club Championship events. Competition commences at 1pm. The range is located at 434 Trenayr Road, opposite the Koppers log mill, and adjacent to the Experiment Farm. Visitors and new members are always welcome. Anthony O’Keeffe
