Grafton Gem Club – Grafton and Lismore Shows

It has been a busy couple of weeks for the club. The Grafton Show is a good time for us to show what we enjoy about working with stones. Some very good items were entered into the lapidary section.

The results are as follows: Grand Champion – Kathy Browning; most outstanding cabochons and faceting – Derek Higgins; most outstanding mineral specimen – Simon Ashbrooke; most outstanding jewellery – Kathy Browning; most outstanding novice – Ashley Matheson; most outstanding junior – Nathan Waterson. Congratulations to all of our winners and many thanks to everyone who entered their work. Thank you also to everyone who brought in their display boxes, demonstrated and looked after all the visitors to the clubrooms.

Congratulations also to the winners of our raffle: 1st prize Libby Notaras; 2nd prize Leonie Fish; 3rd prize Jane.

The other big activity was the Lismore Gem Show. It is always a great show to visit. The weather was good and there were a lot of visitors. Some members had a stall, which is always a lot of fun, meeting so many people who are interested in the hobby. Other members just went along for the day to see what they could find to add to their collection or for working on; all in all a good weekend.

We are always interested in getting new members, so if you think that you might like to try your hand at making something beautiful, come along and join us. The club is open for working on Tuesdays and Saturdays from 9am to 3pm and is situated in the Grafton Showground. Everyone is welcome; we have members from 12 to 90+.
