Grafton Floral Art Society Inc

The meeting of the Grafton Floral Aer Society was chaired by president Lyn who welcomed members in attendance. Unfortunately owing to prior engagements three apologies were received and accepted.

In correspondence the spring 2019 issue of the NSW Floral Art Association newsletter was received and was of great interest displaying floral art arrangements from different shows throughout the state.

The Garden Club of Australia also forwarded a circular updating annual affiliation fees and enquiring about any recent changes made to financial details.

Leonie Roberts was welcomed to the meeting and as members are participating in the “Festival of Flowers” to be held at Christ Church Cathedral, during Jacaranda week, further details and arrangements were discussed.

As it was a hands-on exercise member participated in an exercise on the manipulation of foliage, and leaves were displayed, and exercise practised.  Examples included a braided nautilus golden cane palm, Rhaphis palms cut and stapled to a new shape, twisted and sliced aspidistra leaves and cut various designs into the side section of strelitzia leaves. Often common materials, which have been overlooked can be utilised especially for interpretive designs.

Members are reminded that the next meeting is scheduled for October 24, and everyone is most welcome to attend.
