Forty three players greeted the starters on Sunday for a 4BBB Stableford event and with the good weather and great course conditions, high scores were expected, but not really delivered. The best score of the day was 23 points shared by four teams, Damien Roberts & Mark Biggs, George Mallison & Russ Tangye, Peter Chessell & Jim Fung along with Dave Lynch & Charles Doggett. No doubt every team will have a story about at least one putt that lipped out, which would have given them one more point so they could claim bragging rights for the day. Charles Doggett had a very frustrating day, not only did he come 4th in the count back at golf but his horse, Charlee Bear dead heated for first in the opening race at Grafton later that afternoon, so close yet so far, unlucky Charles. There was one good story to come out of Charles’s team on Sunday, I scored a Hole in One on the 153 meter par 3 7th, it was a good shot but I thought the balls disappeared behind the pin but Charles, Paul and Steve were sure it went in. As we got closer to the Green and I could not see the ball on the Green, and I knew it did not run through, I started to believe it was in. What a feeling when you walk up and see that ball sitting at the bottom of the cup, is there a better feeling in the game, the 1 a 5 still didn’t help with the count back. The Waterboy champion of 2015, Terry Ord, has come out fighting in the defence of the trophy with three entries on Sunday. Terry went into the water on the 2nd, 4th and 9th, nice start to the new year Terry. Next Sunday is a Stroke event for the monthly medal sponsored by our club patrons, W Tozer and G Williams. Starters will be A Atkinson and G Jackson with C Doggett and D Lynch to handle the results. Sunday February 7 will be a Stableford event and the 1st round of the Grafton Motor Group Stableford Trophy. Starters will be T Ord and J Blanch with W Hambly and J Corrigan to handle the results. Don’t forget the Tenterfield Trip is on the weekend of February 27-28, get your names in ASAP for what is always a great weekend of golf and for $95 it is great value. Dave Lynch
