Get ready…surf time is almost here

The month of September signals the start of visible lifesaving activities on Yamba’s Main Beach. The red and yellow patrol flags will be raised for the first time for the 2019/20 season on Saturday September 28. Our volunteer patrol members will be on duty at Main Beach from that date, marking 112 years of continuous ‘vigilance and service’ to Yamba’s surfing public.

Patrol members will have received a roster for the season and are urged to keep their patrol days free in order to be able to attend to their duty on the beach with their patrol teams as rostered.

The Skills Maintenance (Proficiency) is a SLSA requirement which is compulsory each year for ALL patrolling members and water safety assistants to ensure basic lifesaving skills are maintained. All current patrolling members are reminded that this Skills Maintenance will take place this Sunday September 15 at the clubhouse commencing at 8.30am. Emails with further details have been sent to members concerned.

Members should have completed membership renewals and payments prior to Sunday and should also complete the online skills maintenance workbook before attending the Skills Maintenance morning. The club urges members to attend this Sunday to reduce the workload on those involved in organising alternative dates for members who don’t turn up.

The Yamba SLSC education team is again working to educate current and new members in their lifesaving skills and is now taking names and details of anyone wishing to undertake the training to complete their Bronze Medallion award. Please contact the club office to register your interest and to receive details on all requirements.

The Yamba Nippers season is also imminent. Existing members have been encouraged to complete memberships online through members.sls.com.au before attending one of the two proficiency/information days on either September 15 (12 -2pm) or September 22 (10am – 12noon) where swim testing will take place in the Main Beach pool and members’ merchandise will be available. Any nipper enquiries should be directed to junior activities director, James Forbes through yambanippers@gmail.com or to the club office.

Yamba Surf Club office is open every Monday, Wednesday and Friday between 9.30am and 12.30pm. Please contact the club for any further enquiries by phoning 6646 2463 or emailing office@yambaslsc.com.au
