A good field took to the fairways on Sunday to contest a Single Stableford event and with a little bit of rain about I thought the scores would be lower than they have been of late, but I was wrong. The best score of the day was a fine 23 points from C Grade winner Joe Fisher, closely followed by Joe Armstrong 22, Jason Casserly 21 and Rod Jackson 20 and another 4 players on 19. Nice golf all round guys. The first round of the match play is under way and there were 4 matches played on Sunday. Paul McFarlane defeated Jim Corrigan 2 & 1, Dave Morgan defeated Charles Doggett 2 & 1, Nev Henwood defeated Nathan Blanch 2 & 1 and I had to go to a 10th hole to beat Steve Carnley 1 up. Terry Laybutt also played and won his match play mid week but I do not know who he defeated or by how much. Players are still clambering to join the Waterboys Club 2016 with Wilson Burns 7th & 4th, Terry Ord 7th while playing the 9th, Ron Jenkins on the 4th and Steve Carnley on the 9th, even though Steve managed to play out of the hazard it still counts, all taking out membership. It is nice to see so many players taking out additional memberships. Next Sunday is the Irish 4 ball event. Starters will be J Corrigan and N Winters with C Doggett and TBA to do the results. Please make yourself aware of the SPECIAL rules for this game. Sunday March 27 will be a Single Stableford event. Starters will be R Miller and K Ellem with N Winters and P Chessell handling the results. Sunday April 3 is a Stroke event for the monthly medal.
