Flag raising ceremony

On Tuesday August 20, students at Maclean High School held an official flag raising ceremony at the new flagpoles, a grant for which was obtained from the Department of Veterans Affairs in recognition of 100 years since the Armistice ended World War 1.

This is the first official occasion the three flags; the Australian National flag, the Aboriginal flag and the Torres Strait Islander flag have flown together at Maclean High School, and is an important component of the school’s commitment toward national reconciliation.

Mr Kevin Hogan MP attended the ceremony, and whilst there presented a Australian National flag to student Millah Curtis, who will be leaving Australia to participate in the student exchange program overseas. Mr Hogan also listened to the captain’s speeches of year 11 students who have nominated for positions in 2020.
