Several club members have been involved in various competitive events representing Yamba SLSC in the last week. Senior member Wil Brighton finish second in the 19-29 years division of the Coolangatta Gold (short course) event last Saturday in a time of 4 hrs 10 mins. In the Coolangatta Gold Youth Challenge last Sunday, Jorden Elabbasi competed well to finish fourth in the U/15 section while Kalani Ives had a great race and was placed second in the U/12 division. These events require a high level of fitness and dedication and these three club members have shown great determination to achieve at this level. The Carl Schaeffer memorial handicap surf was held in flat but choppy conditions at Main Beach last Sunday with 22 starters. It was great to see two nippers Lily Young (70 secs) and Yasmin Elabbasi (100 secs) taking out first and second places respectively with senior member Jill Ennever (30 secs) in third. The swim continues each Sunday at 11.30am and it would be great to see more patrol members participating. Lifesaving Director, James Ryan is still keen to ensure that all patrol members are in attendance whenever rostered and he requests that any patrol members still not registered for this season complete their membership renewal forms and payment online through portal.sls.com.au or through the club office ASAP. Members must be financial in order to receive cover in case of accident or injury. The final proficiency for patrolling members will take place on Saturday, November 5. Nominations have been extended until Friday, October 21 for the Advanced Resuscitation Techniques Course which will be held at the clubhouse on Saturday, October 29. Participants must hold a current First Aid Certificate or Bronze Medallion. Please contact the club office on 6646 2463 to register. There is still room in the Bronze Medallion course which commences this Sunday – if you are interested, please contact the office. There was plenty of action on Main Beach last Sunday with nipper activities in full swing. Parent helpers are a vital part of this section of the club and any assistance from parents is greatly appreciated and strongly encouraged. See Junior Activities Co-ordinator, Danielle Connolly on the beach to offer your assistance or email yambanippers@gmail.com It will be a case of ‘many hands make light work’ for the upcoming Branch nippers carnival to be held at Main Beach on Sunday, November 6 – please contact Danielle if you can assist with any of the many jobs that will need to be done in preparation for the day. Congratulations to ‘Nipper of the Week’ Felix Forbes from the U/6s who is kicking off his nippers journey with great enthusiasm. Felix has scored himself a $10 voucher kindly donated by Sassafras Pizza and Pasta who have been generously donating this award for several seasons.
