Ferry Park Artist of the month for August is Barbara Briers. Born in London, UK, Barbara won a scholarship to the London School of Art before marrying and emigrating to Australia with her family in 1973. Although busy with family life, Barbara continued to take and active interest in painting and sculpting. Inspired by the history and heritage of her adopted country, Barbara expressed its character and colour in different mediums.
Unlike many artists, she has explored and mastered oils and acrylics, watercolours, pastels, graphite and coloured inks. Although proficient in all these areas, she is best known for her portraits in pastels, depicting traditional Australian characters. This work is distributed both Australia wide and internationally in Russia, America, Japan, Canada, New Zealand, France, Germany and the UK. Working and teaching for the last ten years, Barbara has been actively involved with the Watercolour Association of Australia and the Queensland Miniature Society. She demonstrates at many venues around South East Queensland.
