All about chickens at St Joseph’s Maclean

Capture   Students at St Joseph’s Maclean are excited to have a brand new chicken coop to house two new chooks. This will be part of a playground upgrade that will incorporate some raised garden beds for veggie growing and planting flowers. This new area will also incorporate sand play fun and lead to the enchanted garden. Sustainability is a really important part of contemporary education and is learned best, first hand and by doing. This will be a great organic part of our school environment, adding interest for the children who will learn about love and care of poultry, growing things and nurturing them. Many thanks to Damien Senz our groundsman and Elizabeth Green our chaplain, for putting the coop together with the children. We look forward to some fresh produce to use in the canteen and sell so we can buy feed for the chickens. This enhances our school environment and helps to make our experience of school a very enjoyable one where life- long learning is fostered.
