The Mend and Make Do Crew Op-Shop at South Grafton are being pro-active in the way they conduct business during the COVID-19 period, by implementing a drive-through op-shop service.
Op-Shop co-ordinator Ursula Tunks said that with the current social-distancing measures in place, this was the best way to ensure the safety of not only her volunteers, but also her valued customers.
“We’re asking customers to queue up in their cars, beside the op-shop – but not block the driveway,” Ursula said.
“All of the stock that we’re going to be selling, will be outside on trolleys and there will be different items available on different days (NB see operating hours below for more details about what’s available on what days).
“We’ve got kits made up like macramé kits and yarn kits etc.”
“We ask that customers remain in their car and we will serve them.
Ursula said that the reason for creating the drive through service, was to try and maintain the highest levels of hygiene possible.
“Because the op-shop is not set up like a normal retail outlet, people are normally going through stuff all the time, so we’re just trying to be proactive.
“Customers can also collect one of our ‘Soap in a Sock’ which will be available, for people to drop off near taps and public amenities when they are out walking, to ensure particularly the homeless have soap to wash their hands.
“We also have our homemade face masks, which are our fundraiser to help keep us open, available for sale at South Grafton News and Gifts – so if you want facemasks, they are available from there.
“The drive through service will be open as from Monday 20 April and from Ursh and the crew – thankyou, we love you,” she said.

Drive through Op-Shop hours
Monday – 9am – 1pm – Plants and pots (plus egg cartons and jars).
Tuesday – 9am – 3pm – Donations ONLY (mainly plants, seedlings and plant pots, egg cartons, jars, arts and craft materials – are the priorities at the moment).
Wednesday – 9am – 1pm – Arts and Crafts
Thursday – CLOSED
Friday – 9am – 1pm – Books, Music, CD’s and DVD’s
Saturday – 9am – 1pm – A selection of all items above
