Grafton TAFE began its academic year last Sunday with “an exciting new event … to celebrate the start of a new year full of opportunity”. The Concert in Colour event showcased DJ Jarrod Sowter, TillyMash and Synapse, as attendees “ran through a colour gauntlet …, celebrating by throwing coloured holi powder” over each other. Another event takes place at the Maclean showground this Saturday February 6. Concert in Colour organiser and TAFE information and technology teacher Aubrey Thompson said the initial idea came from a student project. “In a lot of our classes we try to encourage our students to think outside the box,” he said. “This event grew out of one of their social media projects that were originally a tie-in to our very popular gaming and Big Night Out music events last year.” Around 500 people registered on the Facebook site prior to the Grafton event. As of Monday, 248 people had registered for the Maclean Concert in Colour. Registrations open from 9am, and the cost of participation is $10 per entry, which covers four powder satchels for the morning. Under-18s will require a parent or guardian signature to register, but the event is open to all ages. Concert in Colour tips: • Wear white clothing and bring goggles to protect your eyes • Run through the colour gauntlet, and rock on in the DJ’s colour pit • You will get messy; bring a change of clothes and a towel If you would like to find out more or attend on the day, more information is available via the event’s Facebook page at www.facebook.com/events/1497238593902223/
