Comment sought on public holidays for Clarence

Clarence Valley residents are invited to comment on proposed public holidays for the region for the next two years. Clarence Valley Council general manager, Scott Greensill, said council had been invited to apply to the NSW Industrial Relations for the 2016 and 2017 local public holidays or event days, but was required to seek public comment before lodging the application. He said the request from NSW Industrial Relations was historically made annually, but in an attempt to streamline the process, proposals for two years were now being sought. He said that, where possible, local event organisers had nominated ahead, but Maclean Show dates not yet been set for 2017. Event organisers have nominated the following local public holidays and spread of hours: 2016 • Maclean Show – Wednesday April 13, noon-5pm • Ramornie Races – Wednesday, July 13, 1-5pm • Grafton Cup – Thursday, July 14, 1-5pm • Jacaranda Thursday – Thursday, November 3, 1-5pm 2017 • Maclean Show – not yet allocated • Ramornie Races – Wednesday, July 12, 1-5pm • Grafton Cup – Thursday, July 13, 1-5pm • Jacaranda Thursday – Thursday, November 2, 1-5pm The spread of hours is the same as the 2015 approvals. Comment is now invited on the proposed public holidays and can be emailed to council@clarence.nsw.gov.au, posted to Clarence Valley Council, Locked Bag 23, Grafton, 2460 or dropped into council offices in Grafton or Maclean. Feedback will be reported to Council and NSW IR. Submissions close at 3pm September 29, 2015. For more information, contact council on 6643 0200.
