Clarence Valley Seniors Computer Club to visit Grafton this month

Members of the Clarence Valley Seniors Computer Club will have an information table set up at the Grafton Food Emporium between 9am and 3pm on June 29.

Bob MacPherson, the club’s Publicity Officer, said the aim of the visit is to reach out to seniors living in the Grafton area and surrounding communities, and he is encouraging them to take the opportunity to speak with members and find out how the club can help them navigate computers, phones, laptops, and most small digital devices.

Established in 2005, the agenda of the Clarence Valley Seniors Computer Club is to focus on and promote computer and digital education for seniors locally.

Based in Maclean, the club currently has 120 members and is supported by Clarence Valley Council (CVC) as a non-for-profit organisation.

Mr MacPherson said while there are currently no plans to establish the club in Yamba or Grafton due to additional expenses and limited funding opportunities, he said members remain focused on broadening the club’s association with locals and raising its profile amongst seniors living outside of Maclean.

With digital technology continually advancing and growing, he feels its important seniors living in the Clarence Valley are equipped with the skills to navigate their way through new forms of communication and networking opportunities.

“I’m 83, and I can speak for a lot of seniors because I feel we’re being pushed towards technology in a very fast way, because it’s all around us,” he explained.

“We need coaching and to be taught and educated on how to use technology, and to be confident when using it.

“We’re inviting seniors to visit our members in Grafton, and see how they can help them.”

The Clarence Valley Seniors Computer Club is located at 50A River Street, Maclean, conveniently located next to the local council chambers with both north and south bound bus stops nearby.

Seniors with a concession card can travel from Grafton or Yamba for the small cost of $2.50 return ticket.

Mr MacPherson said seniors are invited to become members of the club to gain access to classes which are offered three times a day from Monday to Thursday.

Each lesson runs for two hours.

The club also has a winter courtyard where members can sit to enjoy a coffee or tea break during classes.

The club can be contacted on 6645 4005 from Monday to Thursday between 9am and 4pm, or online at www.cvscc.org.au
