Clarence River U3A

All photo enthusiasts please take note, a CRU3A ‘Camera Group’ will be beginning on March 23, then the 4th Wednesday of each month, in the Treelands Drive Community Centre Yamba at 6.30pm. All interested folk should contact Group leader Phillip Lowres philliplowres@hotmail.com or Group liaison officer Annette 0475 434 008. The first ‘Joy of Gardening’ meeting for 2016 was held last Friday and a good roll up of 49 members turned out to hear of the planned activities for the year, some very interesting and informative speakers and outings are in the pipeline. Flower of the month was hotly contested with a bright pink bromeliad taking the blue ribbon. Yours truly left the meeting with a big smile and two new ‘Hippy’ Bulbs from the raffle table. After the meeting a group enjoyed the serendipitous tour and tasting at Nicholson’s Fine Foods, Yamba’s home of champion gourmet food products. Peter and Dan spoiled them with their range of delicious offerings. Beginning with a rosella refresher, then cooking and serving a range of savoury and sweet morsels featuring seasoning spices and sprinkles, finishing vinegars, pastries and strawberries with chocolate mousse. A big thanks to Peter and Dan for an enjoyable tour. ‘Garden Group’ members should note that the March meeting will be a week earlier than usual as our meeting day will fall on Good Friday. Thursday last week saw a great gathering of representatives from most of the U3A Committees in the Far North Coast Region. Hosted in Maclean by our Zone Representative Liz, it was an extremely interesting informal morning of sharing ideas between U3As in this region, some valuable new ideas were gleaned from one another. Those in attendance indicated that it was a very worthwhile morning and they are looking forward to future meetings. Sandra Gregor
