The Yamba duo of Martyn Wood and Greg Johnson have secured the Zone One Champion of Champions Pairs title with a display of precision bowling on a day of blustery winds and fast greens at the Evans Head Bowling Club.
Marty and Greg had a tough battle against the Cabarita team in the first round played on Sunday morning. Then in the afternoon they faced off against the team from Lennox Head, and triumphed with a score of 23 shots to 15. Later in the year Marty and Greg will join the other 11 Zone Champions in the State play offs. Congratulations on the Zone win and we wish you good luck for the State title.
The final of the Handicap Fours Championship was contested on Saturday afternoon between the teams of Peter Hudson, Steve Cassidy, John Luchetti and Steve Butler as skip opposing the team of Jake McHutchison, Dave Atkinson, Marty Wood and Alan Turnbull. After a mammoth battle, with Steve Butler’s team leading for most of the game, Alan Turnbull’s team gained an advantage and controlled the game to the finish, claiming the title with a score of 21 shots to 15.
