Changed traffic conditions on Gwydir Highway west of Grafton
Roads and Maritime Services reminds motorists changed traffic conditions are in place on the Gwydir Highway about 72km west of Grafton for essential maintenance work to be carried out.
The NSW Government has allocated $530,000 for work on the Gibraltar Range to improve motorists’ safety by reducing the risk of rock falls.
Work involves removing loose material along the slope, removing vegetation, rock bolting and installing mesh to prevent rock falls.
The work is expected to take about five months to complete, weather permitting.
Work is being carried out between 7am and 6pm on weekdays and 8am and 1pm on Saturdays, excluding public holidays.
The highway will be reduced to one lane for up to one kilometre and traffic control will be in place to guide motorists safely through the worksite.
Where possible, both lanes of the highway will be reopened outside of works hours.
Motorists may experience delays of up to five minutes and are advised to plan their journey, allow extra travel time and follow all signs.
A reduced speed limit of 40km/h will be in place through the worksite 24 hours a day for the safety of motorists.
Roads and Maritime thanks the community for its patience while this important work is carried out.
