‘C’elebration Day for dragon boat paddlers

What better way to have fun but to have a theme for the morning paddle to celebrated the 9th anniversary of the Clarence Coast Dragon Boat Club.

Members have had several weeks to plan their ‘C’ attire – character, colour or accessory and they did not disappoint. So many characters – a unique colour card, a concreter, and a council worker, Captain from Gilligan’s Island, Cat Woman, Cleopatra, a Christmas tree and Liza Minnelli from Cabaret made a guest appearance. The clothing was a trip down memory lane with cargoes, canvas shoes, chinos and culottes making a comeback.

So with a full boat of 20 paddlers and full of colour we took to the water and completed several paddling drills from race starts to interval training to the important ‘lift’ at the end of the race. Most importantly we concentrated on all paddling at the same time, at the same rate, all in the same boat together and just having fun.

At the end of the hour the crew were breathing heavy after a good workout and what better way to end the morning but to head to ‘One Fine Cup’ and enjoy carrot cake and coffee in line with our them of ’C’.

We welcome any new paddlers to come and try (paddles provided) on Wednesday afternoons at 3.30pm or Saturday mornings 7.30am at the Moby Dick Boat Ramp Yamba.
