Cancer Care Units each receive cash injection of $6,000

This year the Grafton and Lismore Hospital’s Cancer Care Units each received $6,000 from the Grevillea Waters Cancer Care Committee.

This was a great result for the annual fundraising events held at Grevillea Waters Village to support cancer care in our local area and especially all local residents undergoing treatment at these hospitals.

Nurse Unit Manager Nick Allen from the Northern NSW Cancer Care Institute at Lismore Hospital said the funds would be used for a variety of patient care needs including an improved entertainment/call buzzer for each of the chairs in the chemotherapy unit and improved wellness items such as pillows, padding and covers.

Kerri-Anne Fella, NUM for the Grafton Cancer Care Unit, said they also use donations to assist patients to cover the costs of seeking treatment, so they do not have to dip into their own pockets every time they visit the care centre whilst undergoing treatment.

The Grevillea Waters Cancer Care Committee wants to acknowledge the incredible generosity of the Yamba business community, and 2023 saw over 80 businesses sponsoring the fund-raising events throughout the year by donating goods, services, cash or vouchers for use as prizes in all of the fundraising events held at the village. A BIG thankyou is extended to all the local Yamba businesses for their continued support of this great cause.

In 2024 the goal will again be $10,000 but with the hope of achieving much more, just like this year. Fundraising will continue throughout the year with a variety of activities aiming to maximise income for next year’s donation.
