Grafton Floral Art Society

Being the first meeting of the Graton Floral Art Society for the current financial year (owing to the floral display at Grafton Shopping World during July Race Week), members were present to join in on the Annual General Meeting. The results from the elections were: (president) Lyn Hayman; (vice presidents) Doreen Winkley and Beth Wykes; (secretary for correspondence) Lyn Hayman; (minute secretary) Janni Walker; (treasurer and publicity officer) Freda Johnson. President, Lyn read a comprehensive report of activities and fund-raising events, followed by the treasurer’s report for the previous financial year. As Nancy (the previous secretary), has resigned from the group, a small presentation was made to her with many thanks extended for all her loyal assistance and friendship over the past years. Nancy intends to do more travelling and we wish her well. Leonie Roberts was welcomed and addressed members re the 2019 Grafton Agricultural Show schedule and the “Festival of Flowers” to be held Jacaranda week. Many suggestions were brought forward and discussed, adding much food for thought. Congratulations to the winner of the monster raffle held at the floral display at July Race Week. Prizes were drawn by a Grafton ShoppingWorld staff member, and results are: first draw ticket Freda Johnson, second draw Gloria Hicks and third draw Janni Walker. A thank you card was received from Glenys Collie and family on the passing of her husband Gordon. Glenys was a founding member of the Society and many would remember. The Westpac Helicopter Service forwarded a letter of thanks for our donation of $300 together with Certificate of Appreciation. Pieces of branches or driftwood can be used to add height to a few flowers, especially when they are not plentiful. Members are reminded that the next meeting will be held on August 9, and two members will demonstrate several flower arrangements; all are welcome. Freda Johnson
