Bright future for Yamba Cricket Club

With exciting plans being implemented for the future, the Yamba Cricket Club are fired up and back on track, according to the club’s new president Scott Johnson. “We have enthusiastic and passionate members who are keen to see the club move forward and in the right direction,” said Mr Johnson. “Our committee members are: Vice-President – Simon Dougherty; Secretary – Enit Reichle-Stillhard and Treasurer – Brenda Rice. Junior Committee members are: Richard Almond, Simon Dougherty and Enid Reichle-Stillhard. “We have a number of promising junior players in the under-14’s and under-16’s as well as our 3rd Grade side which we hope to keep developing. A majority of those players will hopefully move forward and fill our 1st Grade team in the next season or two. “We are very grateful and thankful to our major sponsor, the Yamba Golf Club, for their ongoing support. “We’re getting a fresh new (club) ‘social shirt’ that is being designed, which we will have within the next week or two,” he said. The club has recently scored a huge win with cricket legend Graham Mackie coming on board to take on a consultancy role. Mackie is a very accomplished player and is extremely experienced both on and off the field, having held numerous positions in many clubs and cricket councils and boards and his expertise will be very beneficial to the future development of the club. Mr Johnson said that the club is currently looking at getting a club coach for next season. “We’re proactive, in developing strong juniors over the following 12 months,” he said. “Currently we have our two senior sides in semi final contention, so the club is really interested in increasing player numbers for next season. “We are hoping to field three senior sides (1st, 2nd and 3rd) and three junior sides (12’s, 14’s and 16’s).” If there is anyone not currently playing in a team and would be interested in playing next year, contact Scott Johnson on 0428 987 217.
