Birrigan Gargle Local Aboriginal Land Council Chairperson Amanda Laurie says there’s a Training and Employment opportunity here for our community members.

Birrigan Gargle LALC would like to announce the completion of our Traffic Controllers training, which was conducted on February 14 -15, at the Treelands Drive Community Centre in Yamba.

Birrigan Gargle LALC is working in partnership with the NSW Department of Planning, Industry and Environment for upgrade works at Ngaru Village under the Roads to Home Program.

Birrigan Gargle was given funding approval for Ngaru Village to provide infrastructure upgrades, the aim of this program is to improve access to services such as Household Waste Collection, Postal Delivery, Emergency Vehicles, Community Transport and to subdivide our land which will provide fencing and a cleaner, safer, and healthier living environment for our residences, visitors and the general public.

The Roads to Home Program is a program designed for discrete Aboriginal Communities such as former reserves and missions that were provided ownership under the NSW ALRA 1983, this program will be delivering Training and Employment opportunities for our mob.

Our next training course will be in early March, and this will be the Civil Construction training with works being conducted at Ngaru Village, these training courses will provide our mob with the knowledge, skills and hands-on experience they need to complete the works that is required for the improvements at Ngaru Village.  This will also provide our members with qualifications, self-esteem and empower our mob to look for employment within the wider community.

Birrigan Gargle LALC will also have the opportunity in the near close future to provide more affordable housing on our land for our people with the financial support from our Iluka subdivision Development which is currently progressing smoothly.
