Our 2016 season got off to a flying start last Wednesday with 70 starters on a very warm and humid day.
We sincerely thank our wonderful long time sponsor, Deb Tennant of Southside Pharmacy for once again providing an outstanding array of beautiful trophies.
The 4 person drop-out Ambrose event saw Jen Townsend, Sonya Baker and Jan Hamilton come in with the best net score of 62 1/3. Second place went to Sharyn O’Grady, Marianne Mannell, Mary Katte and Colleen Smyth with 62 ¾. Elaine Shand, led her team of consistent golfers, Robyn Wilkes, Jean Milne and Sue Heath, into 3rd place on 63 5/8.
Mark Hunting of Bendigo Bank South Grafton was welcomed by president Heather to our Wednesday presentation as the sponsors of our popular Summer Consistency competition which was held over 16 rounds from November 2015 to February 2016.
First place going to Julie White on 174 points. Jen Townsend was just three points back on 171 for 2nd place, 3rd place went to Mary Atkins on 169 on a c/b from Elaine Shand, followed by Ann Gibbons 164, Millie Harris 161, and Marianne Mannell 160 on a c/b from Carol Toms. Congratulations to all the placegetters and our thanks go to Bendigo Bank.
Hot and humid weather conditions continued for the 18-hole Stableford on Friday. With our course well and truly feeling the effects of the extremely dry conditions, a return to run was evident by the great scores posted on the day.
With a field of 27 players there was none better than Desiree Whitton as the winner in Div 2 with 41pts. Lorraine McLaughlan was 2nd on 38, and Bev Snowdon 3rd with 35. Marg Manahan placed 1st in Div 1 on 35pts from Noeline Smith with 34 on a c/b from Narelle Butcher.
With quite a few players away last Saturday, only a small field of nine starters entered in the 18-hole Stroke event. With a nett score of 71, Courtney Fuller was the day’s winner and also received the 1st weekend monthly medal of the year. Marianne Mannell returned to form to come in 2nd with 73. Jen Townsend was the ball winner on 74.
Monday February 29 has been set aside for our Opening Day for the 9 hole players. Could all 9 hole players, together with any new or beginner golfers, please place your name on the nomination sheet beside the computer terminal in the clubhouse, if you wish to play on this day. Players are requested to please provide a small plate of food to share after the game.
