The annual Yamba Rotary family fun day was held at Yamba’s Main Beach, on Sunday. Yamba Rotary event organiser Kevin Hassey said that there were more competitors than ever before for the sand sculpting competition. “The event has been a huge success this year with 40 competitors signing on,” he said. “I’d like to thank everyone who was involved in this year’s event.” The sands of Main Beach were transformed into sculptures of every conceivable sea creature including a mermaid. Star Wars was also represented, with a space ship and R2D2 sculptures. Historical greats included a sand sculpture of the Coliseum and a pyramid. The winners of the adult section were the WNJ Smith team with their sculpture of an old ute filled with beach debris in the back and junior sculpture was won by The Neve family with their local theme of the Yamba lighthouse, pool and a shark.
