If you’re interested in local history and heritage then it’s time to get excited.
Thanks to the generous donation of books, maps, photos and ephemera by local historian and genealogist Nola Mackey, Clarence Regional Library now hosts one of the largest collections of North Coast history and genealogical resources; known as the Mackey Archive. Collected over the last 50 years it is a treasure trove of delights of Northern NSW history.
Nola is a life member of the Clarence River Historical Society and has spent the last 50 years researching and writing local history as well as assisting people from all over the world with their family history.
“Fifty years ago, while undertaking academic studies for a career path in Family, Local, and Applied Histories, I discovered what an incredible and unique part of the world the Clarence River District is” Nola says. “Over time a large network of friends from all walks of life and of all ages helped me collect a wide range of books, photographs, maps and other original material”
After closing her professional business Nola wanted to keep the collection local and available to the public and felt the Clarence Regional Library would be the perfect new home.
“We are beyond excited to house this significant collection of Local Studies and Family history resources at Clarence Regional Library” says Regional Librarian Kathryn Breward, “the collection will be available from Thursday the 26th of May for all members of the public”.
