Grafton Golf Course closed May 1-3

John Hough (7) just missed out for the overall win in Saturday’s Muddys & Studdys sponsored event with 43 Stableford points and had to settle for the A Grade win, with Brian Napper (9) claiming the r/up in that grade with 39. Brian’s eagle on the par 5 18th hole contributed to his good result. However no one could deny our overall winner, Grant Titman (26) with a score of 44. Unfortunately Grant only gets to play golf at Grafton infrequently having to travel down from Brisbane. Two players in B Grade finished with equal scores of 40, Keiran Walsh (13) and Clint Corbett, (10) following a c/b. After carefully ensuring the correct protocol in the signing of cards, the 3rd best score on the day, was 42pts by Tony Daly, (20) in C Grade. R/up was Mark Walker (20) with 39. Tony Norton (22) was winner in D Grade with a fine 41pts. Next best was Paul Ricketts, (31) with 37pts. There were 123 starters, and if you had a score of 35pts or better you achieved a Pro-Ball. Simon Loadsman won the Mark Harvison Pro-Pin on the 1st, finishing just 66cm’s from the cup. There were some good results coming out of the mid week competitions. In Tuesday’s Members/Veterans competition Robert Usher cleaned up with 43 points to claim the win in both categories. Derek Latimer was the r/up to Robert with 42pts. Ray Evans with 39 points was the 2nd r/up in the Veterans competition with Tony Gallagher, also with 39pts achieving the r/up spot in the Members competition. A total of 106 players made the effort on Tuesday, and if you had 34pts or better in the members comp, or 32pts in the Veterans competition, a pro ball is coming your way. Not quite so many players in Thursdays Mark Harvison and Coopers Brewery Tallow-Wood Challenge, but there was some quality in the scoring played under the Stroke format. Shane Essex (15) won the day with a great score of 67 nett, which gave him a 3 shot margin over his nearest competitors. Two of our Veterans, Neil Martin and Cyrill Coombes recorded scores of 70 nett and were awarded the r/up and 2nd r/up places respectively. The best score was recorded by Greg Harvison with a par round of 72 hits. Pro balls went down to 75 nett on a countback. Entries are still being accepted for the Veterans Wintergroup Festival of golf scheduled for 9th, 10th, 12th and 13th May. Regular Tuesday golfers should be aware that the normal walk up start that applies on that day will not apply on Tuesday 10. Should you want to play on that particular day, it is mandatory that you enter via the formal entry form. Next Saturday’s event will be the popular 2BBB over 18 holes and on this occasion being sponsored by Coopers Brewery. Entries for this event are normally very strong therefore it is advisable to get your names in early which will ensure your preferred tee off times. There is also a 4 person Ambrose scheduled for Saturday 14th May. This particular event is a memorial competition in recognition of Past President and Life Member Johnno Johnson, whose family and friends are contributing to the sponsorship. Members should now be aware that the Club House, course and possibly the pro-shop and buggy sheds will be closed for 3 days, Sunday, Monday and Tuesday, May 1-3 to permit the completion of major road and car park resurfacing. There will be no vehicular or pedestrian access to these areas. This activity is subject of coarse to weather permitting. Should you have any concerns relating to the closure, just contact any of the Club Directors who will attend to these concerns. Ray Hopwood
