At the end of November years of grime and mold were carefully cleaned from the Chatsworth Island War Memorial and a fresh coat of paint applied.

With funding provided by the NSW Office for Veterans Affairs and Maclean RSL sub-Branch the project was undertaken by local contractor Cromac Constructions and guided by Clarence Valley Council in protecting the heritage of the 101-year-old monument.

The work follows on from a particularly well attended Anzac Day dawn service held at the memorial earlier this year with many people from Chatsworth and nearby Ashby coming together to commemorate Australia’s war dead.

Sub-Branch president Steve Walton spoke about how Grafton, Maclean and Yamba RSL sub-Branches were taking steps to work more closely with Council, veterans and their local communities to manage and protect war memorials across the Clarence Valley.
