$1.8 million project to improve safety on the Gwydir Highway

Roads and Maritime Services will carry out work on the Gwydir Highway at Purgatory Creek from Monday 1 February as part of a $1.8 million NSW Government funded safety improvement project. “The Gwydir Highway is the main route connecting Grafton and Glenn Innes and is an important road for freight and tourism,” Mr Gulaptis said. “A 1.6 kilometre section of the highway between Main Creek Bridge and Purgatory Creek Road will be widened and resealed to improve safety for all road users. “New line marking will also be in place to improve visibility for drivers. “Work will be carried out from 7am to 6pm on weekdays and 8am to 1pm on Saturdays with the project expected to be completed by mid-year, weather permitting. “Lane closures and reduced speed limits will be in place for the safety of workers and motorists. “Road users are asked to follow the direction of traffic control and allow for extra travel time. “Changes to work dates and times will be displayed on electronic message signs along the road.”For the latest traffic updates call 132 701, visit livetraffic.com or download the Live Traffic NSW App.
