Yamba Yabbies Toastmasters

Yamba Yabbies meeting No. 193 was held September 21 with a visitor, Rick and another new member Andrew. It is so good to see the younger ones coming along, as they feel Toastmasters will help them in their workplace. Lauren was Toastmaster for the first time and “Pets” was the theme she chose for the meeting. Well done, Lauren! You have what it takes to be a great Toastmaster. All meeting roles were explained with Timer – Belinda S, Meeting Listener – Andrew, General Evaluator – Deyann and Grammarian – Noel who gave “eulogist” (praise to a person) as Word of the Night. Lauren gave a speech on her pets and Joy, who is working towards her High Performance Leadership award, gave a speech about the upcoming Oxley Division Conference which is being hosted by Yamba Yabbies on October 17. Jan C was next speaker with her speech titled “My Pets”. Caz and Pam gave excellent Evaluations. Joy then gave feedback on the A17 Speech Conference in which Yamba Yabbies had two contestants, Belinda S (Evaluation and International) and Annie (Table Topics and Humorous). They may not have won, but they excelled and did our Club proud. This was a great learning experience for both ladies. The members thank them for representing our Club. After the break, Maureen conducted Fortunately and Unfortunately and for the first time (prompts used), we all got it right. Ilma was Table Topics Master, in the impromptu section, and using the theme, the speakers Brendon, Belinda S, Andrew, Maureen, Rick and Deyann all spoke well. Evaluators were Brendon and Maureen. Yamba Yabbies celebrate their 8th Birthday September 28. Happy Birthday to one and all. A fund raiser will be held at Yamba Home Hardware in conjunction with a lamington drive October 31. Members, please return your orders and money at the next meeting October 19. As the 1st Monday for October falls on a public holiday, there will be no meeting, so please mark diaries accordingly. Meetings are normally held 1st and 3rd Monday at the Yamba Bowling Club commencing 7pm sharp. Visitors are always welcome. Further information contact 6646 1124. Joy Lauder
