Yamba Yabbies Toastmasters held meeting number 201 at Yamba Bowling Club March 21 with numbers down a little. We had an official visit from our Area Director Garry Euston and his wife Allison from Lismore who took part in the meeting. Toastmaster Joy chose Easter Time as the theme. Roles were explained by Michael as Timer for the first time, Andrew as Meeting Listener, General Evaluator Garry and Grammarian Jan C gave “Segue” as Word of the night. This word was a little difficult for members to use, but some achieved it. Garry held an Interactive Segment “What’s Hot What’s Not” where two groups had discussions on how our Club is functioning. The items discussed were first impressions, membership orientation, fellowship, variety and communication, program planning and meeting organisation, membership strength and achievement recognition. The whole segment was well received and our Club is functioning well on most levels. In the Speech Segment, Noel was the only speaker with speech titled ‘The punch line’ from the Humorous Manual. As usual, Noel spoke well with lots of humour and Alison gave him a wonderful Evaluation. Pam was Table Topics Master in the impromptu section, where she followed the theme of Easter Time with speakers Andrew, Jeanette, Michael, Ilma, Annie and Jan all speaking well and Jeanette and Annie giving very positive evaluations. The speakers even got a little gift from Pam. Joy began the ‘Soap Box’ segment where she told us that Easter eggs and hot cross buns coming out soon after Christmas was far too early. Alison spoke on road curtesy, Annie mentioned how the stickers on apples annoy her and Noel talked about the Banks punishing him with high charges because he does not own a computer. Meetings are held 1st & 3rd Mondays of the month at Yamba Bowling Club commencing 7pm sharp.
