Sandy Owen in action against eventual winner Judy Sinclair.
Judy Sinclair, YWBC’S reigning Minor Singles Champ, has added another crown, successfully challenging Sandy Owen for the Princess of the Green at YWBC last week. Judy got off to a good start in this game, to lead 6-1 after just 4 ends, but not ready for an early shower, Sandy dug deep to gradually peg it back at 10 all on 13. It became a real arm wrestle through the next 7 ends, but Judy was able to collect multiples to see her lead 19-15. From there she was able to push home the advantage and with good steady singles play ran out a deserving winner, 25-16. Judy’s next challenger will be Cheryl Deveney, and this should prove another tough game. So too will the next Queen of the Green game when Queen Denise Burey takes on challenger, Wynne Bell, but this will have to wait as the District singles are currently being played. Also on Tuesday, May 3 it was wonderful to see some more of our bowlers who have been off the greens for a while returning. Through injuries and Illness some have been ‘missing in action’, but it is great to see Robyn McPherson, Denise Collier, Lyn Olsson and Isabel Neill back among us, and playing good bowls. And in Robyn’s case it was a return with a vengeance when she teamed up with Faye Reeves and Val Pate to take home the winners’ Bowlo Bucks. Isabel was also in luck when she and Catherine Aitchison were drawn as lucky consolation winners. Then on Thursday 7 the lucky winner was the team of Jenny Scobie, Sonia Graham and Chris Cole, while the runners up bucks went to Jan Stamp, Ruthie Fletcher and Gloria Davis. In the money for the lucky consolation bucks were Gwen Hoskin, Jan Dunning, Val Pate and Kaye Mason, who had a tussle, but went down to Gwen Hoskin, Raels McKibbin, Jane Pearson and, yes, the in form returnee, President Robyn. Members should note that the nominations for several events are now being taken. The mixed pairs sheet is on the men’s board, while the major/minor pairs is on the ladies’. Entries for the Blue Pacific pairs and fours are also open, but must be lodged with the Secretary, using the appropriate form and accompanied by the relevant entry fee. Wendy Ballantyne
