Yamba women bowlers Pennant results

The No. 5 Pennant teams fought it out on their home territory today looking for a win after their narrow loss to Iluka on their greens on August 16.

Grade 5 is a gentle introduction to Pennant for new players – in the mix with more experienced players without any progression to Regional Playoffs but still giving them an opportunity to feel the competitive side of Pennant games and get to know the rules covering such competitions before moving on to higher grades in the next Pennant season.

The Yamba team of P. Chilcott, L. McLean, B. Backshall, G. Davis performed very well and came out with a 7 shot lead to defeat Iluka’s J. Blaxter, D. Hanson, J. Franke, A. McCausland. It was a close call with Yamba’s team of K. Gunning, B. Shatte, J. Madden, J. Pryor who had a narrow win of 1 shot over Iluka’s N. Donsworth, J. Brooker, L. Briggs, D. Prentice but with a 2 rink win for Yamba it was enough to secure the competition for Yamba.

Must congratulate both sides not only on their bowling prowess but also on the wonderful friendly spirit the games were played. Many thanks to our great supporting manager – Judy Abbott and thanks must go also to the officials and umpires from both clubs for your assistance and to the Social Committees for the early cuppas to get us started.

On the social scene the winner of the Bowlo Bucks was team C. Pepper (swinger) R. Low (v), S. Lindsay d C. Pepper, J. Hudson, T. Allen (v) with a very tight 1 shot lead. On the other rink visitors G. Evans, R. Evans d M. Beans, J. Beans.

And on Thursday (first day of spring) our No 3’s and 4’s were away chasing their respective flags and it was a very small field enjoying the wonderful sunshine and promise of warmer days ahead, E. Dougherty and J. Pryor lost out to K. Huett (v) and M. Stone and swinger M. Wall, J. Blair (v), V. Terry d M. Wall, B. Backshall, M. Abbott.
