Clarence River Masters – virtual swim meet

In a new look season for Clarence Masters’ swimmers, the club will host its Inaugural Postal Swim; an event named in honour of founding member, David Abrahams.

Clarence River Masters Swimming Club resumed training for the new season on Saturday August 27 at Yamba Community Pool and enthusiasm is building for the challenge ahead. Swimmers will compete up until October 21.

Virtual or postal swims are those in which participants are timed swimming their events with their home club; and results are posted to the host organising club.

Members are encouraged to enter in a variety of styles and distances: 50m, 100m, 200m, 400m in freestyle, breaststroke, backstroke and butterfly. The virtual carnival replaces the highly successful CRM carnival previously conducted on the long weekend in June. Entries are to be finalised by October 31

The increasing popularity of virtual or postal swims is a result of the disruptions experienced by clubs in the last few years. Our Clarence Masters swim stars have excelled in such events in recent times as they provide a great opportunity to swim longer distances and in other strokes.

Helmut Klein and Jane Lawrence completed the Bunbury Stingers Postal Swim; a challenge consisting of 3 x 400 metre swims in different strokes. When times were added, Helmut placed first and Jane 5th in their respective age categories.

Congratulations also to the Clarence Masters swimmers who completed the Tuggeranong Vikings Postal Swim challenge: a combination of times over 400m, 800m, and 1500m distance swims, again in different styles.

The first training workout at Maclean Pool will be on Monday September 26. Regular session times are as follows:

Maclean Pool: Mondays 6pm, Wednesdays 6pm, Saturdays 7am
Yamba Pool: Tuesdays 6pm, Thursdays 6pm, Saturdays 7:30 am

New members are always welcome. There are coaches on deck to deliver programs for all levels of fitness and experience. Interested members of the community and visitors to the area can swim for three sessions as a taster before formally joining the club.

The club motto is Fun, Fitness and Friendship; so, in addition to the health benefits of swimming, add a variety of social activities with motivated, friendly people! For more information contact club president, Leonie Daley, or ask at the pool.
