Yamba Squash early call for Club Championship contenders

It has not taken long for players to get back in the swing of things at Yamba Squash Centre. All players are over all their soreness and looking forward to the next match. On Monday night Roger Varcoe certainly gave Wendy Moffitt a run for money in a five setter with Wendy prevailing in the end. Great to have Dean Turner back playing and he started off well with a win in 3, Roy Ellery had just the right shots to defeat Jamie Disson in three and Ross Gudgon also recorded a 3-0 win. Hopefully I don’t put the curse on Philippa Hayman when I say that she will be the player to beat in Div 2 in the Wednesday night comp. Sure it’s early days but for a player who has not played very much squash in the last 6 months she is playing really well. Kane Hancock had a good win in four and super sub Torben Mikkelsen did the right thing by winning in four. Div 1 only recorded one match and that was a win, of course, to Tony McFarlane in three over Nick Gregor. To his credit Nick didn’t give up and did reach double figures in a couple of games. Don’t forget players, that the 2015 Club Championships are on after this comp so we need names of players who would like the chance to have their name on the honours board that goes back to when the courts opened and had their first championships. All players now and any from 2015 are all eligible to compete. Footy tipping is again on the agenda. First match is Thursday night so now is the time to put your names down. There will be a score sheet down at the courts for all to keep up with their progress or lack of and tips have to be in by kick off time Thursday night. Back to squash, Friday night round robins are on so if players are looking for that extra hit to get the edge over their opponents then this is your opportunity. There is still room in the comp for more players, like they say “the more the merrier”, any grade any standard just give the squash centre a ring and we’ll be more than happy to put you in a comp.
