The grey sky and passing showers did not deter competitors in Sundays Carl Schaeffer handicap surf swim. Taking out 1st place from a field of 31 competitors was Elise Beaumont, swimming off 80 seconds. 2nd place went to John Francis, off 160 seconds and Geoff Sanders, off 60 seconds, took 3rd place. This popular surf swim is held every Sunday and Australia Day, with registrations at 11am, and the race starting at 11.30am. Yamba SLSC meat raffles are on every Saturday evening at the Yamba Golf and Country Club. This Saturday Bob Darby, Jo & Grant Bennett and Rick Harris will be selling tickets from 5.30pm with the draw starting at 6.30pm. With 33 fantastic meat trays to be won, go along and try your luck! The Yamba Surf Club bar is open every Sunday 4pm-6pm, and will also be open on Australia Day. What better way to celebrate being in Australia than having a cold drink with family and friends overlooking our beautiful beach! There will be no nippers this Sunday January 24. This day is for FNC Branch Championship training only. The FNC Junior Branch Championships is a two day event being held at Cudgen SLSC on January 30-31, and wish all of our Yamba competitor’s good luck. The Nipper of the Week award went to U11’s Kalani Ives & Malik Elabbasi. Their age manager Jasmine Ives said both of them showed fantastic skills and put in a top effort in the Ironman. Congratulations kids and keep up the good work. Thank you to Sassafras Pasta & Pizza for their support every week. Normal nippers will resume Sunday January 31 with U10’s parents on beach set up and pack up. Could you please be at the beach by 9am to help.
