A luncheon was held at the Yamba Bowling Club on Friday to celebrate the 15 year milestone of Yamba’s Osprey RSL Day Club. Around 55 people attended the function on Friday with guests travelling from Iluka, Grafton, Evans Head, Maclean, Brushgrove and Ballina. Yamba’s Day Club co-ordinator Bev Daly has been involved with the club for around six years. Ms Daly said that the purpose of the Day Club, is to give people (who would otherwise be isolated at home) the opportunity to get out of their homes and make new friends, whilst taking part in activities like cards, quizzes and entertainment. “Around 30 – 40 people gather each Friday at the RSL hall in Church Street, Yamba and for a $6 charge, enjoy entertainment, morning tea and lunch,” said Ms Daly. “Those who attend have the option of coming by bus, if they don’t have transport – thanks to the generosity of the Yamba Bowling Club, who supplies the bus. “The Day Club is a joint venture between the NSW RSL branches and the Department of Veteran Affairs.” One of the original members of the Day Club, Joe Hewitt, said that over the years his greatest pleasure is in seeing people enjoying themselves. “It’s a friendly and social atmosphere, where people can come and have some fun, instead of sitting at home alone,” he said.
