Yamba Mens Bowls

The State Grade 3 Pennant finals to be played at Yamba and Maclean (see separate story) will be preceded by the Zone One Pennant play-offs, for all grades, on this weekend June 25-26. Again the Yamba and Maclean Clubs have been selected as the venues for these qualifying play-offs. The Yamba Grade 3 Pennant side is endeavouring to qualify for a home state final and hope to go one better than the last few years where they were eliminated at the Zone play-off stage of the competition. Yamba’s play-off matches will be contested at Maclean. On Saturday afternoon Yamba will tackle Lismore City commencing at 1pm with the loser to challenge Condong on Sunday morning commencing at 9am while the winner gets the opportunity to do battle with Condong during the afternoon session on Sunday commencing at 1pm. The Grade 7 play-offs will also be held at Maclean where Brooms Head will be up against Pottsville on Saturday and Lennox Heads on Sunday. The Yamba Bowling and Recreation Club will host the Grade 4, 5 and 6 Zone One Pennant play-offs with Iluka represented in Grades 4 and 5 while Maclean will feature in Grade 6. In Grade 4, Iluka tackle Cabarita Beach and Alstonville with both games programmed for Sunday. The Iluka Grade 5 combination will play Lismore Heights on Saturday and Ocean Shores on Sunday. While Maclean will have to overcome the talents of Cudgen Leagues and South Lismore in Grade 6 with both games also scheduled for Sunday. The quarter and semi-finals of both the men’s and women’s 2016 Major/Minor Pairs Championships will be contested on Sunday July 2 commencing at 9am and 1pm respectively. Nomination sheets for the club 2016 Minor Singles, Pairs and Triples Championships are on the notice board. Please check the board for details. A reminder that the next travelling bowlers foray is a trip to Urunga and Macksville on the weekend of July 9-10. A participation sheet, with all details, is on the Travelling Bowler’s noticeboard. This trip will be followed by a visit by the Queensland Veterans on Saturday August 20 and a reciprocal visit to Yamba by the Park Beach Pirates on Sunday August 28. Social bowls continues with pairs on Wednesday and triples on Friday. All games commence at 1pm and names need to be on the respective nomination sheets by 11.30am on the day of play. All nominations are guaranteed a game and visitors are most welcomed. Results from last week are: Wednesday 15th June: Winners: Roger Porra and Tom Morrow. Runners-Up: Ron Buchholz and Peter Glover.
