Yamba ladies Matchplay final to Kathy Parker

30th March 2020

This has been a week like no other with the Coronavirus situation escalating by the day. As it spreads, we are seeing restrictions being imposed and our golf club is no different.

At the time of writing this report, the club is closed to patrons and the course and Pro Shop, thankfully, are open for business with some changes to the way our game is played. Most of our local sponsors, who always provide unflinching support, have had to suspend business because of COVID 19 so it is we who would now like to extend our moral support during this difficult time.

Last Wednesday’s highlight was the 2020 Matchplay final played between Kathy Parker and Janine Zietsch in a very competitive but friendly game. Kathy finally edged away, winning 4/2 on the 16th. We are all thrilled for you Kathy and so pleased that the final was contested by such worthy players!

Understandably, we have had reduced numbers of players participating as many are taking extra precautions, but ladies are still playing when they are able. On Wednesday, with 31 ladies contesting our single Stableford game, Lynne Donsworth won with a great score of 40pts. Runner up was Sue Scott (35pts c/b) and Jane Anderson, continued her red hot streak, coming 3rd (35pts).

Balls were awarded to 31pts c/b.

We were pleased that Shelley Clare joined us and hope to see her playing with us again.

Last Friday, there were 13 teams that played in the 2BBB v Stroke day. Di Sigle and Jenny Muir won with 65 nett and balls went to 69 c/b.

On Saturday, Jane Bonner won (35pts c/b) from the eight ladies who played. Kathy Parker is playing great golf also coming in with 35pts. We were pleased to welcome Margaret Fishburn to the group.

With strategies including: physical distancing; no NTPs; one person to a cart; no touching the flag or anyone’s equipment and score card other than your own and playing balls as a preferred lie in bunkers, the club is doing everything it can to ensure that we can continue playing, confident that all necessary precautions are being taken.

We can continue to support our club by buying take away drinks after play, then moving immediately from the deck and the area in front of the club house. We must adhere to these changes in order for the club to remain open.

Please remember that both Wednesday and Friday bookings must now be done online. Your continued support is valued greatly.
