Yamba greenkeepers did a tremendous job
Wet, wet, wet – has been the story on many recent days at Yamba Bowling Club, and while the rain forced the closure of the Greens on one of the scheduled play days last week, bowlers are a hardy lot and have managed to get in some games.
Greenkeeper Graham Brown and his assistant, Nathan, did a tremendous job to get the Greens into tip top condition for play, and as usual the Greens were running beautifully.
And in the week prior, in fine weather, on Thursday, March 9, there were some very interesting games played, and the lucky rink winners were Jen Ridgway, Peg Wales and Ros Hippisley over visitor Joy Unicomb, Glenda Davis and Cheryl Deveney.
Runner up Bowlo Bucks went to one of the Yamba Whites Pennant teams, while their opponents from South Grafton won the consolation bucks.
Also, recent fours champions winning skip, Marie Stone backed up again and showed her class skipping Bev Shatte, Pam Conley and Noelene Smith to a close win 18-13 over Judy Pryor’s Pennant team, who were getting in some valuable practice.
Then on Thursday 16, Judy’s team showed that practice pays off when they teamed up with Judy Button’s team to see the Blues side have an exciting win in Pennants. Not so lucky was the No 2 side who had a 2-shot loss. Full details are in the CRDWBA notes.
Winners of the lucky rink Bowlo Bucks was Judy Button’s Blues Pennant team while their opponents, skipped by Candy Nixon went home with the consolation bucks.
Social bowls on Thursday 16 saw just one game, and that was a practice game between most of the two teams that make up the Whites No 3 Pennant side which had the bye. And it was a very hard fought game over the closing ends with Kerry Pedder’s team of Sue Lindsay, Gwen Hoskin and Barb Cross finishing strongly to defeat Jen Ridgway, Val Terry, Gloria Davis and Marie Stone 21-20. Kerry’s team fittingly took out the r/up prize.
Next week in Pennant, our Whites travel to South Grafton on Tuesday, and on Thursday 23 are scheduled to play the Blues in the local derby. Our 2’s will take on Iluka, current competition leaders, at home on Tuesday before they have a bye on Thursday.
