Our August meeting was held with 25 present. We welcomed three delightful guests in Wendy, Marjorie and Erica. Ladies we enjoyed your company and hope to see you all again soon. A general meeting was held with a lot of information on all the up-coming activities. Vice president Pat presented our new member Danni Turnbull with her badge. Welcome Danni. Lucky door won by Leonie Roberts and raffle by Beth Spence. We then welcomed our speaker Leonie Roberts. Where to start with this delightful and self-effacing lady. With her linage this lady is a true Clarence River child. Leonie’s contributions to the Clarence Valley on committees and council are vast and varied but words that ring loud and true is the quote from her father ‘To be a good citizen you have to work for your community’. We listened as Leonie spoke of a life gone by not only on a dairy farm but within the Clarence as well. So many committees and offices held, including life memberships ranging from local, district and regional P&C’s, Bicentennial and Federation, LandCare, causeway construction and councillor. What does stand out is 15years service within the NSW Fire Brigade. Initiating and joining with her husband in1968, Leonie was not only the first woman to join and fight fires but having the first fire truck in Copmanhurst Shire named after her would have to be a highlight. Amongst her many achievements, Leonie has now received two citizenship awards, the first in 1988 as Copmanhurst Citizen of the Year and the 2016 Clarence River Council Citizen of the Year. A remarkable woman. Our next meeting will be held on Monday, September 19 at the Yamba Bowling Club. We wish those members that are not feeling the best a quick return to health. New members and guests always welcome. Bookings/apologies call Lyn on 6646 3164 the Friday prior. Beth Spence
