Yamba bowls Mixed Pairs

With apologies for no column last week – your correspondent was attending to grandma duties in Sydney.

Back on deck now and just a catch-up from last week – the winner of the Open Veteran singles was Graham Meaney who defeated Neville Beck in the final. Congratulations Graham – another win to add to your splendid record and also to Neville for attaining r/up.

Now for this week and only 8 bowlers for Thursday social and with Friday Jackpot Joker rained out -it’s a very sparse report on the social scene.

But the weekend saw the final of the Mixed Pairs played on Sunday 19 – and what a game it was with four of the Titans of the Club – team Lois Duncan and Des Johnson and Monica and Ian Parker going to battle for this year’s title. Spectators were entertained by very skilful bowling from all players with the scoreline running very close at 9 all on the 12th end. Then Ian and Monica scored a 4 only to be countered by Lois and Des with a 3. By the 17th end the Parkers were 2 ahead – then Lois and Des picked up 8 shots over the next 4 ends to take the game 20-14.

Congratulations to all players on a very entertaining game and many thanks to all the Umpires and Controlling Bodies who gave of their time throughout the competition.

Coming up

The next two weeks will be a feast for bowls-watchers – starting with the Zone 1 South Men’s Singles finals to be held next weekend, November 25-26.

Hot on the heels of that over the week of December 5 – 8, the Women’s Regional Championship Playoffs will be held at our Club. Many of our local bowlers will be involved in both these finals so come along and cheer them on.

The Bob Ware Triples are on Saturday December 2 – entries on the board and names on the board for those interested in playing Open Pennants for the 2024 season.

On the social scene – for your diaries – starting off with the ladies Christmas Party to be held on Thursday December 14 ($10 includes lunch), the Open Christmas Party on Saturday December 16 ($20 payable at cashbox) and lastly Ham Day is on December 19 at 10am.

Getting that Christmas feeling with the end of the year looming. Meanwhile plenty of bowls to be played over the next few weeks and plenty of entertainment for spectators.

Good luck to all our bowlers in the upcoming Zone and Regional finals.
