The management of Yamba Bowling Club has been recently bolstered by the recruitment of the former Evans Head RSL CEO due to a significant increase in business post Covid.

Under the management of long-term CEO Phil Boughton, the Yamba Bowling Club, which recently acquired its second motel in the town, continues to expand its footprint, with the club requiring additional managerial and administrative experience.

Mr Boughton said once all the Covid restrictions started to disappear, and things began to return to normal the club wanted to return to pre-Covid business levels, so they advertised for an Assistant CEO.

He said the Yamba Bowling Club has owned the Yamba Aston Motel since 2017 and recently purchased the Yamba Twin Pines Motel in March 2023.

“The business has grown 300 per-cent in the past 10 years,” he said.

“That’s in a lot of different ways, in revenue, in employees, and we’ve got two motels now, so the administration side of our business needed the additional attention.”

Mr Boughton said after interviewing several applicants, local man Greg Targett was selected for the Assistant CEO position.

“We advertised for the position, and we had a number of applicants,” he said.

“Greg was the CEO at Evans Head RSL Club, and he was experienced in both clubs and hotels, he ran his own businesses leading up to working at the RSL club and probably one of the main factors was that he lives locally.

“It saves him two hours a day in travel time and he’s really keen to become part of the local community and everything the club stands for.”

One of the first jobs Mr Targett has been tasked with is reestablishing the club’s Boardwalk Bar as a premier destination in the Lower Clarence.

“One of the first projects Greg has taken on is to reestablish our Boardwalk Bar as a place to go for cocktails and good quality wines and beverages,” he said.

“He is really focused on reestablishing the Boardwalk Bar as the place to go in Yamba.”

With the planning phase finalised, Mr Boughton said from next week the Boardwalk Bar will be open seven days a week, making it the ideal place to enjoy an after-work drink or to gather with friends on a sunny spring weekend.
