Yamba bottle shop ram raid

Police are appealing for information after a Yamba bottle shop was the victim of a ram raid attack in the early hours of Tuesday morning and the vehicle used was found alight nearby.

About 4.45 am on Tuesday, October 17, police were called to a shop on Yamba Street, Yamba, following reports of an alleged ram raid.

Police were told a Volkswagen Transporter had been driven through the front of the shop before two males stole several bottles of alcohol and fled the scene.

The Volkswagen Transporter was later found by police burnt out in Norfolk Park, about 400 metres east along Yamba Street from Yamba Liquor Supplies.

Police said the Volkswagen Transporter had been stolen from Byron Bay.

Fire fighters from Fire and Rescue NSW Station 510 Yamba responded to reports of a car fire at 5.03am the same morning in Norfolk Park, on Yamba Street.

Several community members reported hearing a loud bang around 5am when it is believed fuel in the Volkswagen exploded.

When fire fighters arrived at the scene the vehicle was fully involved in fire.

Two fire fighters in breathing apparatus and a charged line of 38mm hose extinguished the fire very quickly.

The scene was made safe, before police were called, and the incident was handed over to officers from the Coffs Clarence police district who are conducting an investigation.

Anyone with any information about the incident is urged to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
