Last Wednesday’s, 4BBB event had a great number of 66 starters all vying for the beautiful trophies kindly donated by Gai Leeson and Helen Hopwood. With a count back used to determine the winners, Kaye Murdoch and Cathy Jones came out on top to claim first place from Helen Packwood and Dot Newton on 45pts. Noeline Smith (following her time in Kyogle), relished being back on her home course when she combined with Queen Marianne to be awarded 3rd place on 44pts on a c/b from Sharyn O’Grady and Heather Purtill. Of the two NTPs awarded on Wednesday, Bev Snowdon/Lorraine McLaughlan took the 1st and Carlie McKenzie/Sharyn Rowles the 10th. It was noted that a few great birdies by consecutive groups were also recorded on the 6th hole. Balls were given to 8 teams to 40pts on a c/b. Our handicapper, Mary Katte, had her red pen working overtime following the great scores posted by the top partnerships in the 4BBB event. No doubt this resulted in a few surprises for some players. The dry conditions on our course last Wednesday were in complete contrast to the corresponding Wednesday 12 months earlier. Following lots of rain during February and March in 2015, our course was very heavy for the 4BBB event contested on that same day. A three way count back was used last year to determine the winner with only 39 points being the top scores. With a slight change in the weather bringing a light southerly breeze, 37 ladies entered the Stableford competition on Friday. Marie’s Hayes’ rest from golf on Wednesday paid dividends as she returned the best score of the day, with a fabulous 40pts, which gave her the win in Div 2. Liz Fisher was r/up on 33 followed by Jo Walters, who is making another comeback with 31. Div 1 saw Marianne Mannell with her return to her renowned good form to claim 1st prize with 36pts, followed by Jen Townsend on 35 and Sue Petty came in 3rd placed with 34pts on a c/b. Jean Milne had a nice win in div 3 with 39pts. Helen Irving is seeing the fruits of Ray’s labour come to fruition with her lovely 37pts for 2nd place and Lorraine McLaughlan was 3rd on 33. Balls were awarded to 30pts on a c/b. The heavens finally opened on Friday evening and dumped a lovely 8mm of rain on the course which will at least settle some dust for a few days. Saturday’s 18-hole competition was a 2-person Irish event kindly sponsored by Janet Croft. Our golfing friends from Coolangatta Tweed, Sue Reguson and Jodie Rockliff were “home” for the weekend to celebrate both Sue and dad Bill’s’ birthdays. With a field of 17 starters, Chrissy Danvers and Shirley Goodger were the lucky winners of Janet’s lovely prizes. Sonya Baker/Lorraine McLaughlan took the NTP “win” with their shot finishing farthest east of the hole. Ball winners were Sue Reguson/Janette Blair and Heather Robinson/Janeen Roberts. Monday of this week saw the 16 teams which qualified last Wednesday for the 2016 Ann Bawden 4BBB Knockout competition, complete their round one matches. Results of these matches will be available in next week’s report. Over 20 ladies travelled to Woolgoolga for our annual Inter Club Challenge on Tuesday. Results from this day will be available in next week’s report. Julie White
