Wayne’s grocery Grab

Customers shopping at Spar Maclean on Tuesday morning of last week were intrigued by the site of one customer grabbing items off the shelf and madly filling his trolley.

No, Maclean resident Wayne Doyle was not privy to news of a sudden ‘flash flood’ on its way, he was actually taking part in a grocery grab, which he’d won at the Maclean Services Club.

Maclean Services Club manager Steven Fraser said that the ‘grocery grab’ promotion was for the members, who were given tickets to put into a barrel, which was drawn out in the lead up to Christmas.

“Wayne’s number was drawn out of the barrel, but at the time he was in hospital,” Mr Fraser said.

“He couldn’t actually do the grocery grab at the time, so he’s finally been able to do it this morning (last Tuesday week).

“He had 90 seconds on the clock in which to complete the grocery grab, but he certainly got around pretty quick – the quickest I’ve seen him move for some time.

“He selected everything he needed and he’s a happy winner,” he said.

Wayne said that he was able to get most of the things that he wanted in the allotted time.

“I was able to grab some olive oil, razor blades, a fan heater for winter, some everyday essentials and anything else I could get my hands on,” Wayne said laughing.

“I’d like to thank the Club for putting this on for me,” Wayne said.

“I hope it happens again,” he said laughing.

Owner of Spar Maclean Bob Little said that the grocery grab is a light hearted thing which is a lot of fun.

“It’s not really an easy thing to do, but Wayne did doing a great job and selecting the things that he really needed.

“It’s a great atmosphere in the shop – we love it,” he said.
